Requesting a copy of license and insurance information is an excellent thing to do when hiring any contractor, not just a fencing contractor. Unfortunately, there are a large number of unlicensed and uninsured contractors doing work in the state of Idaho. Many homeowners and business owners don’t understand the risk they are taking by hiring such a company

Yes. We believe the best way to guarantee a quality installation is to provide our team members with the proper training and tools for each type of fence they install. Absolutely! As one of the most trusted fencing contractors in the Boise Idaho area, we stand behind all of our work

Each fence type and fence manufacturer is different. Our fence experts will guide you to the best solution for your situation – making sure you receive the maximum protection and peace-of-mind for your fence!

Workmanship Warranty on Fence Installations
Our installers are expertly trained for all types of fencing. We are experienced with the specific soil conditions and other factors that impact the strength and resilience of fences installed in the Southwest Idaho area. We stand behind our work and offer a workmanship warranty on all residential and commercial fences we install. Prices on fences are highly dependent on the type of fence you choose, the amount of fencing you need, as well as the exact style, height, and options you select.

We provide fencing quotes for free! For an instant price quote, please use our online fence estimator to get a free estimate 24/7.

The online estimator will provide you with a price range for your project. You can get a budget for the most common fences we install in the Boise Idaho area. If you do not see the style of fence you are looking for on the list of options, please choose custom fence and put in your desired fence location. We will use the information to get a baseline and follow up with you in person to discuss your specific project.

After you complete the online estimator, a member of our team of friendly, experienced staff will reach out to you to set up an onsite consultation to walk you through the process and provide an exact to-the-penny fence quote for your specific project.

It is important to note that on the surface, two quotes may appear to be for the same fence but are actually not a 1 to 1 or apples to apples comparison. We at RMF pride ourselves on offering competitive pricing for the level of quality of the materials, installation, and customer service that we provide. If our quote is significantly different than another quote you have received, we would be happy to go through the quotes together with you to ensure an “all is equal comparison” to ensure you are making the most informed decision that is based on more than price alone.

The highest expense for any new fence are the materials to be used and this is most often the difference in price quotes. We use only materials from national suppliers that stand by their products with documented warranties. There are less expensive materials available; however, they often do not meet our quality and warranty standards.

Other questions to consider when looking at material pricing. For a wood fence, what type of post was quoted? wood? steel? How thick is the steel post? 16 ga? Sched 20? Sched 40? How many rails were quoted? RMF always installs 3 rails. Are the rails Fir or Cedar? What type of pickets/fence boards were quoted? Japanese Sugi or Western Red Cedar? How thick are the pickets/fence boards quoted? 5/8″ 3/4″ 7/8″ 5/4″ ? For vinyl fence, are posts on 6′ centers? 8′ centers? If 8′, are there metal inserts in the bottom rails to prevent the rail from sagging? For ornamental iron, what is the warranty on the powder coating—10 year, 15 year, lifetime? All of these factors will affect the final price and may not be the same from one contractor to another.

While we cannot provide information as to the knowledge, experience, or professionalism of other fence contractors in our area, we can say that we continuously invest in our installers to ensure they are knowledgeable in all aspects of the fence they are installing.

All of our price structures are built around the high-quality value of our product and our experienced professional services so that you know you are getting the best bang for your buck.

We accept several payment methods, including cash, checks, ACH (no fee through Intuit QuickBooks) and credit cards (3% fee).

There are many factors to consider when deciding upon a fence style. In many areas, the city (including Boise, Meridian, Middleton, Eagle, Star, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, etc) may have specific requirements. Also, depending on the neighborhood, the HOA may have specific restrictions on fence styles. Rocky Mountain Fence’s estimator will meet with you in person and, based upon your goals for your fence project, will come up with a solution that meets your needs. Meeting with our customers and seeing the site for the fence project provides an opportunity for Rocky Mountain Fence of Idaho to understand your needs and provide the best estimate for your project.

It may be necessary to check with your local Tax Assessors office or a Title company where you can get the actual parcel/land dimensions for your property. However, the owner of an existing fence is typically the owner of the property upon which the fence is installed. If there is an existing fence, you should check to be certain the fence is yours. We HIGHLY recommend placing a fence, in its entirety, inside your property lines (not on them) in order to ensure there is no encroachment onto another property. For new construction RMF will strive to locate existing property pins prior to installation, but it is ultimately the property owners responsibility to ensure the property pins are located correctly and the fence is installed in the correct location. Rocky Mountain Fence of Idaho does not conduct any property surveys nor do we imply property lines even when we locate an existing property boundary pin. A survey company can mark your property lines for a fee.

Start with our online estimator to get a price range for your project.

We will follow up with an onsite consultation to discuss the project in detail and answer any questions regarding the type of fence you are seeking to have installed. We will also discuss the size and location of gates.

We will provide you with an exact written quote for the work to be performed along with our contract terms and conditions.

Notify us when you are ready to move forward with the project, and we will send you a DocuSign so you can e-sign all documents and keep a copy for your records.

Once signed documents are received, our operations manager will place your project on the schedule. Schedules are typically updated on Fridays, so it may take a few days to let you know your anticipated start date.

2 weeks prior to installation, we will contact Digline to mark utilities maintained by utility companies (power, gas, water, communication lines, etc). Digline ONLY marks public utilities, typically from the point of service to the home. They do not mark any private utilities such as gas and power lines to pool or spa equipment, fire pits, outdoor lighting, sheds or other items not connected to the home. Digline will need access to all areas of the yard in order to provide this service.

2 weeks prior, we will send an invoice for 50% down payment online. ** All special order materials will require 50% down at time of material order, which in some cases may be immediately after documents are signed.

After utilities have been marked, a project coordinator will perform a site visit to ensure utilities have been marked and to determine that the site is ready for installation. The PC may also mark locations of corners and gates as well as document conditions for the installation crew.

On the day of installation, our foreman will let you know we are onsite and ready to start, and our professional crew will begin installing your new fence.

Once the fence installation is complete, our Forman will walk you through the installation, answering any questions and addressing any concerns. They will show you gate and latch operations and locking options.

Once the foreman informs the office your fence is complete, we will email you a final invoice and a request for feedback.

Once all documents have been signed, the Operations Manager will place your project on the schedule. Depending on the time of year, Rocky Mountain Fence Company’s team generally starts the installation within 2 to 4 weeks of contract signing. From November to March, our schedule is usually lighter, with wait times of only 1-2 weeks. During the height of the building season, from April to October, our crews may be booked out 4-6 weeks Projects requiring specially ordered materials may have a longer lead time depending on the availability of those materials and/or shipping requirements.

The duration of your fence installation will depend on many factors, such as ground conditions, type of fence and the size and scope of the project. Some projects may be completed in a single day, others may take a week or more to complete. We advise our customers to expect the average residential fence to be built within three to four days from the day we start your project.

Our ornamental iron fences, aluminum fences, chain link fences, and vinyl fences require virtually no maintenance. They may need to be cleaned from time to time. Wood fences require regular staining to prevent the wood from splitting, cracking, and rotting. Our pre-stained wood fences can help you get a jump start on wood fence maintenance!

Most of the residential fences we install in Idaho are on uneven, sloped or rolling terrain. Click on the graphics below to learn about the primary methods of installing fences and how they deal with uneven ground and sloped or rolling grades.

Generally, 6′ tall is the highest height for residential fencing. In our area, any fence higher than 6′ requires approval from the city and may require a hearing with the city. When considering a wood fence, vinyl fence, ornamental iron fence or aluminum fence, 6′ tall is common for privacy, and a 4′ height is most common for decorative purposes and to keep small kids and pets in the yard.

For a pool fence, 5′ or 6′ tall fences are required in some areas as the minimum height. Although some areas only require a 5′ fence around the pool, we recommend 6′ tall to put in the safest product. We can customize your fence to any height you desire.

Absolutely. In addition to the many fence styles available on our website, RMF is capable of creating one-of-a-kind fences utilizing a full array of materials and styles to meet your vision. Tell us what you are interested in building or share those photos you found on Instagram and Pinterest, and we will create a design that will stand up to the physical demands of the Idaho climate.

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a contractor to handle your project. Experience, professionalism, and trustworthiness of the contractor and their team members should be a high priority. The quality of materials and the track record of the manufacturers of those materials are always important.

Warranties and whether the contractor will be around to honor that warranty in the future if needed are good to consider. And of course Price; will you receive the value, security, longevity, and aesthetic you are paying for? We know you have some good options to choose from when selecting a fence company, as there are some quality fence contractors in our area. When making your decision, we hope you choose RMFI because you believe we have demonstrated a strong combination of all of these factors.

With different metals and finishes to choose from, ornamental fencing can be customized to match the look and feel of your space.

Wood Fence Options in Boise

Better Wood Fence Options in Boise

There’s something timeless about a wood fence, and at Rocky Mountain Fence we make sure yours is built to stand strong in Boise’s tough conditions. We use cedar because it not only has a naturally beautiful color but also resists bugs and decay—so your fence looks good and lasts longer.

You’ll have the option of choosing a pre-stained fence, where each piece of wood is treated with a penetrating oil-based stain for added protection, or you can let the wood age naturally to develop a rustic, silver-grey patina. Either way, our cedar fencing is proudly MADE IN THE USA.

When you’re ready, our Boise fence design team will work with you to create a look that fits your property perfectly. Every cedar fence is custom-built right at your home, shaped to follow the curves and character of your landscape.

Selecting Vinyl Fence Options in Boise

More Vinyl Fence Choices in Boise

If you’ve always loved the classic “white picket fence” look—but want something that will last for years without all the upkeep—vinyl is a perfect choice. It’s strong, weather-resistant, and requires very little maintenance, which means you don’t have to worry about pests, warping, or fading over time.

Our vinyl fencing options in Boise are also highly customizable. You can mix and match white, tan, or black components, or explore other colors, textures, and decorative details to create a look that fits your property perfectly. Whether you’re a homeowner wanting more privacy in the backyard or a business owner adding curb appeal, a vinyl fence is a low-maintenance investment that adds long-term value to your property in Boise.

Wood Fence Resources

"Following the Grade", "Racked", or "Rolling" Method

The method of “Following the Grade” allows your fence to contour to the natural slope of your land, maintaining a smooth, continuous line that follows the ground, minimizing gaps due to uneven terrain.

This technique is ideal for gently rolling landscapes, as it provides a secure boundary that adjusts seamlessly to the terrain. At RMFI, our standard method of installation for residential fencing is a combination of straight top and racked to follow the grade, which is designed to provide an aesthetically pleasing look while leaving gaps to a minimum.

"Stepped" Method

Each section of a stepped fence is installed parallel and level to the next; following the rise and fall of the grade, creating a “stepped” appearance.

This approach is used in many modern-style horizontal and panelized fences, as well as rigid welded ornamental styles. It maintains a consistent height for each fence panel while accommodating an aesthetically pleasing modern look.

However, the stepping structure leaves gaps between the ground and the bottom of the fence on any slope and is not practical for containing animals or keeping the fence close to the ground.

"Straight Top", "Level", or "Line of Sight" Method

Though there are different names and different approaches, each of these refers to a method used to ensure a straight and/or level top line regardless of the land’s rises and falls.

This method is perfect for those who prioritize a seamless visual flow and a clean, uniform fence line. While the top of the fence is in a straight line, the bottom may have gaps as the uneven ground rises or slopes along the fence line.

This style is great for long perimeter runs on open land, homes without finished landscape or housing developments where the grade can be backfilled, and commercial properties.
